RESERVA – A Reserva Extrativista Arapixi foi criada a partir de solicitação das comunidades residentes na região, que se viam ameaçadas na segurança da posse de suas terras. A unidade foi criada no município de Boca do Acre (AM), por Decreto Presidencial de 21 de junho de 2006. Possui aproximadamente 134 mil hectares e tem papel fundamental na preservação do meio ambiente e no desenvolvimento sustentável da região amazônica.
OPERAÇÃO BORDA DE PROTEÇÃO III – A Polícia Federal, em ação conjunta com o Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (Ibama), deflagrou a Operação Borda de Proteção III, entre os dias 19/7 e 21/7, com atuações na Terra Indígena Karipuna e no Parque Nacional do Mapinguari, em Rondônia, com o objetivo de reprimir crimes ambientais. Em Karipuna, foram encontrados e inutilizados dois acampamentos que funcionavam como base para o desmatamento da área protegida.
Já no Parque Nacional do Mapinguari, local em que ocorria extração ilegal de ouro, foi verificada uma grande área de devastação ambiental, em que a mineração era praticada sem autorização dos órgãos responsáveis. Na ocasião, foram inutilizados oito acampamentos, nove motores de dragagem, quatro geradores de energia elétrica e uma embarcação com motor de dragagem acoplado.
